Bear Creek Spirits & Wine was established in 2010 and provides a curated selection of wines from around the world with a welcoming and educational environment for wine enthusiasts.  A passionate and experienced individual is sought to manage retail operations, increase sales, conduct wine tasting events, manage our wine club and build community relationships.

Job Summary:

The Retail Wine Buyer and Manager will be crucial in establishing and expanding the wine shop.  This role involves hands-on sales, strategic inventory management, and relationship building.  The ideal candidate will be a wine enthusiast with a background in retail sales, a strong understanding of wine, and the ability to create engaging customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily retail operations, ensuring a clean and organized shop.
  • Assist customers, providing recommendations based on their preferences and budget.
  • Drive in-store sales through proactive engagements.
  • Handle transactions accurately using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
  • Develop strategies to achieve sales targets.
  • Oversee inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and organizing wine.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels and conduct inventory counts.
  • Build relationships with distributors and wineries to source a diverse selection.
  • Design and execute in-store wine tasting events and educational seminars.
  • Manage our Wine Society wine club.
  • Host monthly education classed for our Wine Society members.
  • Cultivate relationships with regular customers and Wine Society members.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations regarding alcohol sales and storage.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in wine retail or wholesale sales.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and ordering.
  • Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and vintages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
  • Ability to lift and move cases of wine (up to 40lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) certification (Level 2 or higher), or equivalent.
